The President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), Ismael Tweneboa – Kodua has called on the electorate to disregard politicians whose utterances and actions create tension in the country. He said this at the launch of a peace campaign towards election 2008 by the NUGs in Accra . Mr Tweneboa-Kodua said NUGs is joining the chorus for peaceful election 2008 because the youth play crucial role in violence and other related matters. He said it is the responsibility of the youth to secure the nations future.
Mr. Tweneboa-Kodua therefore called on the youth not to allow any ambitious person or group of persons to ruin the nation because of their personal interest. He cautioned the youth to stop looking for excuses in advance to doubt the credibility of the elections but that every effort must be made to address genuine concerns when they are raised by players in the elections.
He said NUGS has outlined a series of activities towards the peace campaign. These include, visiting schools to sensitize students to contribute their quota for successful elections. The union will also train election observers from its ranks and dispatch them across the country with emphasis on conflict prone areas. The chairman for the occasion, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said there is the need for the youth to send a clear signal to all Ghanaians that peace is necessary during and after the elections.
