Is Proposed West Africa Zone Currency, ECO, Still Born?
The Ghana cedi (currency sign: GH₵ currency code: GHS) is the unit of currency of Ghana.
For well over a decade now, the West African Monetary Zone has been battling with the establishment of a common currency to be known as the Eco for five ECOWAS member countries. The currency was to have been launched in 2008 but has been postponed on several occasions. Mercy Darko of the Business Desk in this feature assesses the state of arrangements for the establishment of the Eco and whether or not the currency will one day see the light of day.
