Ken Kuranchie, Atubiga Sentenced For Criminal Contempt
The Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Searchlight Newspaper, Ken Kuranchie and a member of the NDC communication Team, Steven Atubiga have been jailed by the Supreme Court for contempt.

The Court found them guilty of criminal contempt, following some comments they made concerning the ongoing presidential election petition.

Mr. Kuranchie received ten (10) days while Mr. Atubiga got three (3) days. The summons against the third accused, the Ashanti regional Youth Organiser of the NDC, Kweku Boahen was dismissed.

Bubu Klinogo reports that the mood in the Court room became charged after the judgement was delivered.

A Senior Lawyer and former President of the Ghana Bar Association GBA, Sam Okudzeto, has endorsed the action of the Supreme Court for sentencing the Editor of the Daily Searchlight, Ken Kuranchie to ten days jail term and a member of the NDC Communication team, Stephen Atubiga, to three days for criminal contempt.

He told Radio Ghana's Agatha Asamoah on Behind the News that, the Supreme Court has accommodated the indecent language about the election petition hearing for far too long.

Meanwhile, the President of the GJA, Roland Affail Monney says, though the Association solidarises with Ken Kuranchie, his imprisonment for ten days should be a lesson to all.

He has therefore called on media practitioners to exercise the highest degree of circumspection in their reportage.

He spoke to Agartha Asamoah on our news and current affairs programme, ‘Behind the News.’
