President Mahama inaugurates 12 member taskforce to oversee early completion of the Eastern Region University
A twelve member taskforce has been inaugurated to oversee the early completion of the Eastern Region University.

The setting up of the University is one of the major Manifesto issues of the NDC government.

The University will be known as the University of Sustainable, Environmental Studies and Applied Research.

The inauguration of the Taskforce by President John Mahama, at Flagstaff House is to develop, organise and supervise the implementation of a Programme for the establishment of the Public
Members of the Committee are Dr Christina Amoaku-Nuama, the Convener, Dr Raymond Bening Chairman, the Minister of Education Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang and the Eastern Regional Minister Helen Ntoso.

Others are Solomon Asoalla from the Ministry of Energy, Dr Pascal Atendam College of Agriculture and Consumer Sciences of the University of Ghana and Omanhene of New Juaben Traditional area Daasebre Dr Oti Boateng, the President of the Ghana Telecom University Dr Osei Kofi Darkwa and the Executive Secretary of the National Accreditation Board Dr Kwame Dattey.

The rest are the Executive Secretary of the Council for Tertiary Education Professor Mahama Duweijua, a Higher Education Consultant Dr Paul Effah and Dr Nicholas Iddi from the University of Environment,Science, Technology and Innovation.

The new Eastern Regional Public University will be known as the University of Sustainable and Environmental Studies and Applied Research and is expected to produce graduates versatile and innovative enough to overcome environmental challenges the country faces.

President Mahama stated that no country has developed without education as the backbone. He noted that the NDC government has a track record of delivering on its educational promises and the government will not renege on this promise.

He also stated governments commitment to work closely with the Private Sector in pursuing the Educational agenda. He said government alone cannot do it

The Convener of the Taskforce Dr Christina Amoaku- Nuama on behalf of her colleagues assured the Pesident of their commitment to ensure that the University is completed on Schedule

The New Eastern Region University will have Campuses in Donkorkrom, Somanya and other regions to be determined
