Ghana Mine Workers Union ends week long strike
The Management of Gold Fields Ghana and the Ghana Mine Workers Union, GMWU, have reached a settlement on the issues that gave rise to the industrial action last week.
A communique signed by the Country Manager of Ghana, Pierre Coussey, says management and the union after open and frank discussions are satisfied that the racial discrimination was not deliberate but was among issues that were not properly communicated and defined.
He said as the way forward, they have agreed to appoint an independent tax advisor this week to interrogate the formula of the profit share agreement calculations.
The Country Manager will host the General Secretary of Union within two weeks to review, assess and understand the issues around accommodation.
Coussey said management will investigate all other issues including the staff complaints against specific managers at Damang and leave relief problems in the engineering Department at Tarkwa.
