Seven arrested at Ahwenease for illegal chain saw operations

Seven people have been arrested by the Police at Ahwenease in the East Akyem Municipality in the Eastern Region for illegal chainsaw operations.

The Eastern Regional Manager of the Forestry Commission, Yaw Atuahene Nyarko in an exclusive interview with GBC’s Sunrise FM in Koforidua said the suspects were arrested in the Atiwa Forest zone.

According to Mr. Nyarko, the suspects in possession of three chain saws had already felled nine trees into logs and were attempting to plane them into boards for sale.

They were initially sent to the Akyem Akropong Police Station and later transferred to Kyebi Police Station for further investigations.

He said, the suspects who are in police custody, were arraigned before the Koforidua Circuit Court “B”.

Mr. Nyarko advised the public to desist from such acts as his outfit is beefing up security especially in the Atiwa district. He warned the people to stay away from the Forest Reserves.
