Nelson Mandela is credited with bringing South Africa to democracy
South Africa's anti-graft watchdog has found out officials misused millions of dollars during Nelson Mandela's funeral four years ago.
According to the report, 22 million dollars was redirected from a development fund to help in prosecuting the funeral.
The amount had been earmarked for sanitation, the replacement of mud schools and refurbishment of hospitals but was allegedly spent on items including T-shirts.
The 300-page report describes how officials in the Eastern Cape pocketed funds, ignored basic rules, and inflated costs.
Meanwhile, South Africa's public protector has recommended an investigation into the use of 22 million dollars in state funds for former President Nelson Mandela's funeral.
