All is set for this year’s National Farmer’s day celebrations to be held tomorrow in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
The Eastern Regional Director of Food and Agriculture, Henry Crentsil, told Radio Ghana that this year’s celebration will be different as all the ten Regions will be joining the national level with their award winners, while Metropolitan, Municipal and Districts will handle theirs separately.
He commended the farmers and appreciated their efforts throughout the year in providing food for the country.
December 1 farmers day celebration is dubbed, ''farming for food and jobs”.
Meanwhile, nine farmers will be awarded at this year’s Tema Regional Best Farmers Day to be held at Tespo, Spintex on Friday.
The awardees include a physically challenged person, a new initiative adopted by the Agric Directorate to encourage the physically challenged to venture into farming.
The Tema Metropolitan Agric Director, Daniel Boadu, speaking to Radio Ghana, said he expects the event to be successful since measures have been put in place to enhance the ceremony, unlike previous years.
Mr. Boadu said the Tema Metropolitan Assembly has received donations for the awards and a budget has also been made available for other farming implements to be purchased for the event.
Speaking on the average produce to the Tema Market, Mr. Boadu said the Directorate is satisfied with produce from farmers in Tema to ensure food security.
