Research by students of two universities and an environment CSO, Tropenbos Ghana, indicates that 600,000 tonnes of charcoal was produced in the country last year.

The Programme Director of Tropenbos Ghana, Prof Samuel Nketia at a forum on charcoal value chain in Accra said the charcoal trade addresses the socio-economic needs of a huge number of people especially within the middle and northern parts of the country, and as a result, a better way of sustaining the trade should be sought.
