Builsa South District Assembly Audit Committee Inaugurated

A five-member audit committee mandated to ensure proper and effective financial management practices at the Builsa South District in the Upper East Region has been inaugurated in Fumbisi.

This is in accordance with the provisions in Section 86 of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016, Act 921, which requires that all government institutions establish audit committees.

The committee is chaired by Mr. Peter Anyoka, with the other members being Mrs Regina Bagna both from the Institute of Chartered Accountants, ICA, Mr. Sulemana Ali Internal Audit Agency, IAA, Richard Awombadek Ajuik the District's Presiding Member and Mr. Abinbana George an assembly member.

Inaugurating the committee, the Builsa South District Chief Executive, Daniel Kwame Gariba, charged the newly inaugurated Committee to function according to their mandatory roles and responsibilities as stipulated in Act 921 to ensure that management of assembly pursues the implementation of recommendations contained in both the internal and external auditors report as well as parliament’s decision on Auditor-General’s report.

He advised the committee to work diligently to achieve its laid down objectives as their efforts will contribute to the development of the district and Mother Ghana as a whole.

The DCE said the functions of the committee had been spelt out in their working documents and urged them not to deviate from it, adding he will help to facilitate their work without being a hindrance to them.

He said as the committee was going to work with very vital financial documents, they must always do well to scrutinise all the documents to avoid errors.

He said he was going to work with the financial regulations and pleaded with the committee members to always update him on issues that might arise at their meetings for redress so that the assembly will not face the Public Accounts Committee, PAC, as it happened to other assemblies in the country.

Addressing the committee members, the Builsa South District Internal Auditor, Abubakar Maazu, said the role of the audit committee was very important in the financial management of the assembly.

He said there was the need for the team to help address certain financial issues that might crop up from the internal auditors.

Mr. Maazu asked the committee to discharge its duties in accordance with the Public Financial Management Act and other related financial and operational regulations, laws and policies of the assembly.

He also urged them to be honest, objective and competent in the discharge of their duties, saying they need to put the interest of the assembly before any other thing.

He tasked the committee members to know the bye-laws, the Acts, the policies and plans of the assembly that related to the areas to enable them play their advisory roles well to help the assembly.

On behalf of his colleague members, Chairperson of the committee, Peter Anyoka, expressed appreciation for the privilege to serve on the committee.

He called for the support of management of the assembly and other stakeholders to help them carry out their responsibilities effectively and efficiently.
