Emergency workers helped by teams of volunteers are searching through the rubble of collapsed building in Central Mexico, for survivors of a powerful earthquake.

About 150 people are confirmed dead.

At least 20 children died when their school in Mexico City was brought down by the earthquake.

There has also been widespread damage in the Morelos and Puebla states and Mexico city as well which were hit by the seven point one magnitude quake.

Mexico is prone to earthquakes and earlier this month an eight point one magnitude tremor in the south left at least 90 dead.

The army has been deployed to join in rescue effort.
