A high powered Ghana government delegation, led by Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia will today, Saturday, August 19, visit Sierra Leone to empathize with citizens following the twin disaster in that country.

Monday’s mudslide and flooding disaster, which hit the community of Regent on the outskirts of Freetown left over 400 people dead and thousands displaced.

Government on Friday airlifted relief items ahead of his trip, to Sierra Leone.

The relief items, comprising food, medicines, clothing, and logistics, are estimated to cost $1 million.

Government of Ghana set up a relief centre at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to receive donations from the public.

The relief items will be deemed timely as there is growing concern about the risk to public health from water-borne diseases such as cholera.
