A large number of public sector workers have invaded offices of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust, SSNIT, to re-register bio- metrically with the Trust.
This follows a directive by the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori Atta, to the Controller and Accountant General's Department to clean the payroll of workers who failed to bio-metrically re-register with SSNIT.
In all, 26,589 public sector workers risk losing their April salaries, while over 20,000 pensioners may also lose their gratuities.
The pensioners affected could not be validated in the last validation head count which was conducted in October last year.
Radio Ghana's Nana Agyemang Prempeh visited some branches of SSNIT, and reports that there were unusually heavy concentrations of people in the various offices apparently seeking to beat the April deadline.
