The Northern Region branch of the Parent Teacher Association of second cycle institutions has appealed to the government to as a matter of urgency release funds for the payment of outstanding debts as well as grants for the next academic year.
This will ensure the reopening of schools at their scheduled dates.
A release issued in Tamale and signed by the Regional Chairman of the association, Alhaji Abdul Malik Salifu Husseini said the association has been informed that the schools are indebted to suppliers for three terms, which makes it almost impossible for the suppliers to continue supplying the schools food.
It appealed to the government to expedite action for the payment of the feeding grants. It said if nothing is done about the payments and the schools delay in reopening, it will disrupt the academic calendar, which will continue to affect the performance of education in the three Regions of the north.
